4 injured at Ctg building blast

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Four people of a family have been injured in a fire sparked by an explosion at a six-storey building in Dewan Bazar area of the district early Friday.

 

The injured are identified as Abdul Motaleb, 50, Mohammad Arif, 27, Chamuda Khatun, 30, and Ipti, 17.

 

Sources at Paschim Baklia said they heard a loud explosion on the third floor of the building known as ‘Madrasa Arebbia Khayeria Etimkhana’ in the Dewan Bazar area before the fire started on early Friday.

 

During the blast, the glass windows of nearby buildings were shattered. Then the fire began, the sources said.

 

The fire left four people injured inside the house, they said.

 

Confirming the matter to risingbd.com, Nayek Shahidul Islam of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police camp, said, "The injured burnt in the fire were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Their treatment is undergoing."

 

Baklia police SI Shahin Bhuiyan said the reason behind the explosion could not be known immediately. Police are investigating into the matter whether there is any gas cylinder in the house.
