4 killed as electric wire falls on auto-rickshaw

Cumilla Correspondent: Four people, including three members of a family, died from electrocution as a snapped electric wire of Palli Bidyut Samity fell on a moving CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Bagmara in Nangalkot upazila on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 60, Taher’s son Bayezid, 35, Taher’s daughter Fahima Akter, 18, and CNG auto-rickshaw driver Sarwar Hossain, son of Abdur Rahim of Shankarpur village in the upazila.

Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nangalkot Police Station, said the incident occurred around 12:30pm when the electric wire of Palli Bidyut Samity fell on the CNG run auto-rickshaw carrying six people, leaving four people dead on the spot.

Bayezid’s wife and son, who were also in the auto-rickshaw and sustained injuries, were taken to a local hospital.
