5 drug peddlers arrested in Tongi

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested five drug peddlers along with hemp and Yaba tablets from Amtoli and Keranitek area of Tongi in Gazipur on Saturday morning.

The arrestees were identified as Md Babu, 25, son of Ali Hossain of Dhaka's Uttar Kafrul, Mujibur Rahman, 60, son of Abu Sayed of Ashkona area, Babu Mia, 28, son of Sayeed Mia of Kochukhet area, Rahima Khatun, 50, wife of Abdul Quader of Himardighi, Tongi,  and Enamul Haque, 36, son of Abdul High of Keranitek area.

Azizul Haque, assistant director of Department of Narcotics Control, Gazipur, confirmed the news.

He said they were arrested in two separate drives conducted Amtoli and Keranitek area in the morning. DNC officials also seized 25 kgs of hemp and 40 pieces of Yaba tablets from their possessions.

Of the arrestees, Md Babu and Mujibur Rahman were sentenced to imprisonment for two years each while Babu was sentenced imprisonment for half and a year.

Other arrestees- Rahima and Enamul were sued in this regard.
