6 BSMRSTU students expelled for ragging two freshers

Gopalganj Correspondent: Authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) have expelled six of its students for their involvement in ragging two freshers of the university.

The decision was taken on Monday noon at an emergency meeting of the university’s proctorial body.

A 16-member proctorial board led by BSMRSTU Proctor Ashiquzzaman Bhuiyan sat for the emergency meeting and took the decision.

Those who are expelled are Shipon Ahmed, Shahin Mia, Nadim Islam, Hridoy Kumar Dhar, Turzo Hawladar and Ashiquzzaman Limon. All of them are the 2nd year students of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering department of the university.

It was also decided at the meeting that a case under the Digital Security Act will be filed against them.

Ashiquzzaman Bhuiyan said the accused students tortured two 1st year students of the Agriculture department physically and mentally on February 2 which was proved during investigation.

The video footage of the ragging went viral on social networking site Facebook which drew huge criticism.
