ASI among 4 held while taking ransom

Staff Correspondent, Savar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police and three people identifying themselves as DB men were held while they were taking ransom from a person after hostage at Ashulia, the outskirts of Dhaka.
Police held them from Baipail area of Ashulia early Wednesday.
A microbus and its driver were also held during the drive.
The detained Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was identified as Mokbul Hossain. He was under duty at Ashulia Industry Police-1.
The other three include a woman and two males. They used to work as associates of Mokbul, sources said.
According to sources, they picked up a person in their microbus, identifying themselves as members of Detective Branch (DB) of police. Later, they demanded Tk 20,000 to his family as ransom.
Victim's family also paid Tk 10,000 over Bikash. They were asked to bring the rest amount at Baipail bridge area, sources said.
The family members went to Ashulia Police Station as they doubted the people as criminals. Later, Ashulia police went the spot with the ransom moey and held them at red handed, said the sources.
Sana Shaminur Rahman, director of Industry Police-1, confirmed the detention of Mokbul Hossain.
He has already been suspended from his duty, he added.
