ASI arrested with 50,000 pieces Yaba, Tk 5 lakh

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: Detectives have arrested a policeman along with 50,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and Tk 5 lakh.

He was identified as Sohrawardi Rubel, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Narayanganj sadar model police station.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested him conducting a drive at his residence of Rupali residential area of the port upazila on Wednesday night.

Earlier, ASI Rubel allegedly took nearly Tk 5 lakh from a woman after she had been confined forcibly.

Mahbubur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narayanganj DB, and Shahin Mandal, OC of the port police station, confirmed the news on Thursday noon.

They said, “Earlier ASI Rubel was at the port police station. He lives in a rented flat at Rupali residential area. Acting on a tip off that he has involvement in drug peddling, a DB team conducted a drive at his home and found 50,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and Tk 5 lakh. He was arrested for his involvement in drug trading.”

Further legal steps against him were under process, the added.
