Abducted physician Iqbal returns home

Laxmipur Correspondent: Muhammed Iqbal Mahmud, a government medical officer who was reportedly abducted from Science Laboratory area in Dhaka on October 14 in 2016, has returned home.

Iqbal reached his residence of Laxmipur sadar hospital road on Wednesday midnight, after seven and half months of his alleged abduction.

Lokman Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laxmipur sadar police station, confirmed the news.

Iqbal Mahmud told reporters that he was released in blind folded at cattle market area of Laxmipur municipality area around 11:00pm on Wednesday. Later, he returned home by an auto-rickshaw.

He, however, said nothing about where he was for the days and who picked him up.

Iqbal's father AKM Nurul Alam said his son was released at cattle market area of the town last night with his eyes were tied with a piece of cloth. Later, he returned home by auto-rickshaw.

Iqbal Mahmud, medical officer of the directorate of health services directorate in Mohakhali in the capital, was reportedly picked up by some unknown persons from Science Laboratory intersection in the capital on October 14 last year.

Following the day, his father freedom fighter AKM Nurul Alam filed a general diary (GD) with Dhanmondi Police Station.
