‘Adequate security measures to be taken for female voters’

Staff Correspondent: Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam said all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the presence of remarkable number of female voters so that they can cast their votes without fear in the 11th parliamentary election slated for December 30.

The election commissioner made the remarks while inaugurating a two-day workshop titled ‘Gender and Election’ organized by UNDP in Rajshahi on Tuesday.

Speaking as the chief guest at the workshop, Kabita Khanam said, “The election commission will remain alert to make sure safe environment for women as half of the total population in the country is female voters.”

Asked about the cancellation of nomination papers, she said that all concerned deputy commissioners have been asked to give away the certified copies to those candidates as soon as possible.

Mentionable, 53 nomination papers have been filed from Rajshahi. Of them a total of 23 applications have been cancelled after scrutiny.
