Attack on Zafar Iqbal: Faizul’s parents remanded

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: A Sylhet court has placed parents and maternal uncle of Faizur Hassan, the lone attacker of the renowned writer Dr Zafar Iqbal, on remand on different terms.

Haridas Thakur, the judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3, placed Foyzur’s father Atiqur Rahman and his uncle Fozlur Rahman on a five-day remand on Sunday.

The court also placed his mother Minara Begum on a two-day remand.

Amulya Kumar, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (prosecution), confirmed the news to risingbd.

Earlier, police produced them before the court and sought seven-day remand for each.

Meanwhile, the court also placed the attacker Faizur Hassan on a 10-day remand in the case.

He is being interrogated under remand, said Abdul Wahab Miah, additional deputy commissioner (media) of SMP.

It may be mentioned that Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) came under knife attack at a programme on the campus on March 3, leaving him wounded.
