BNP leader hacked dead over previous enmity

Chuadanga Correspondent: A local BNP leader was hacked to death by miscreants at Alamdanga upazila of the district around 10:00am on Saturday.
The deceased was known as Helal-Ul-Islam, 55, vice-president of Khadimpur Union BNP of the upazila and son of Ekdil Biswas of Jugirhuda village.
It was learnt that rivals hacked Helal at his two legs with sharp weapons when he went out from home for irrigating his paddy field around 8:30am, leaving him seriously injured. He was rushed to Chudanga Sadar Hospital in critical state where he was declared dead.
Shamim Kabir, resident physician of the hospital, confirmed the news of Helal’s death.
Deceased’s wife Razia Khatun said, “Police arrested their neighbour Manik with yaba tablets. He then blamed her husband (Helal) for the arrest and threatened him to kill. Finally, he hacked him to death today (Saturday).”
Tofazzel Islam, resident of the area, said, “Manik and his associates are branded drug peddlers. BNP leader Helal was against drug peddling in the area. Manik was arrested with yaba tablets several days ago.”
Confirming the news, Kalimullah, additional superintendent of police in Chuadanga (sadar circle), said, “Helal named Manik and his associates before he succumbed to his injuries. Manik and Helal are relatives each other. He might be attacked over previous enmity. Police started drives to nab the culprits.”
