Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: A Bangladeshi national has been shot dead in Barogram border area by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

The deceased was identified as Mozaffar Hossain, 32, son of late  Abu Taher of village Atoir in Sadar upazila.

Lieutenant Colonel Khandakar Saiful Islam, commander of Dinajpur-29 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said that a gang of smugglers tried to enter India crossing border at night through Borogram border area of Kamalpur union in Dinajpur Sadar upazila. Meanwhile, a patrol team of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) alerted them. But, the gang continued their efforts. At one stage, BSF opened fire, leaving Mozaffar Hossain dead on the spot. 

The body will be handed over to the victim's family after formal procedures, he added.
