Benapole gunfight kills one

Staff Correspondent, Jessore: A suspected smuggler was killed in a gunfight between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel and smugglers in Daulatpur frontier of Benapole in Jessore early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Ibrahim, 28, son of Yakub Hossain, hailed from Kharidanga village of Sharsha upazila.

Firoz Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Benapole port police station said that acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB conducted a drive there. Meanwhile, sensing the presence of law enforcers, smugglers opened fire which triggered the gunfight, leaving Ibrahim dead on the spot.

Later, BGB recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Jessore Medical College and Hospital.

Khulna BGB-21 commanding officer lieutenant colonel Tariqul Hakim confirmed the matter.
