CJ pays tribute to martyrs at National Memorial

Staff Correspondent, Savar: Newly appointed Chief Justice (CJ) Syed Mahmud Hossain paid rich tribute to Liberation War martyrs by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar.

He paid his respect to the martyrs at 4:45pm on Sunday.

After paying tribute, the chief justice observed a one-minute silence in memory of the war heroes.

Later, he wrote his feelings in the book kept there.

Earlier in the day, Syed Mahmud Hossain joined office a day after he took oath as the chief justice of the country.

Syed Mahmud Hossain was sworn-in yesterday as the 22nd chief justice of Bangladesh.

President M Abdul Hamid administered his oath at the Darbar Hall of the Bangabhaban.

Justice Mahmud, a senior judge of the Supreme Court, was appointed as the chief justice of the country on Friday, superseding Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, who had been discharging duties of the chief justice for the last four months.
