Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A case was filed with Tongi police station in connection with the throwing of crude bombs at a prison van carrying 19 accused including Mufti Hannan, chief of the banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (Huji), and some of his associates at Tongi in Gazipur on Monday afternoon.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tongi police station Ajay Kumar Chakraborty filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the incident on Monday night, Tongi police station’s duty officer SI Mohammad Saiful Islam said.

Three to four people including Mostafa Kamal detained from the spot have been made accused in the case, SI Saiful said.

On Monday afternoon, a police team was leading the prison van on way to the Kashimpur High Security Central Jail from Dhaka.

When the prison van carrying Hannan reached College Gate area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Tongi area of Gazipur around 5:30pm, a youth named Mostafa Kamal, 22, son of Mozammel Hossain, hailing from Pagli village in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh, threw two crude bombs targeting the prison van.

No one was injured in this connection.

Mostafa Kamal was detained from the spot in this connection with a bag containing two patrol bombs, two sound grenades, two crude bombs, two machetes and Tk 7500.

The deatained youth reportedly confessed to police that he exploded the bombs targeting the prison van in exchange for Tk 10,000.
