Charge sheet submitted in Sholakia militant attack case

Kishoreganj Correspondent: Police has submitted the charge sheet in the case on 2016 suicide bombing near Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj before a Kishoreganj court.

Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Mashrukur Rahman Khaled confirmed the matter in a press briefing on Wednesday.

He said Kishoreganj Model police station OC Arifur Rahman, who is the investigation officer in the case, submitted the charge sheet, accusing five individuals, before Kishoreganj Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.

Arifur said, “Through our investigation, we found out that 24 militants were involved in carrying out the attack.”

“But only five of them are accused in the charge sheet as 19 others have been killed during different raids of the law enforcement agencies,” he added.

The five accused are: Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi alias Suvash, 32, son of Maulana Usman Gani of Gaibandha’s Saghata upazila, Md Anwar Hossain, 45, son of Hakim Uddin Akand of Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj upazila, A Sabur Khan alias Sohel Mahfuz, 33, son of Rezaul Karim of Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila, Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan alias Boma Mizan, 60, son of late Hossain Ali of Chapainawabganj’s Shibpur upazila, Jahidul Haque Tamim, 24, son of A Sattar of Kishoreganj town.

The suicide bomb attack took place near one of the checkpoints of Sholakia Eidgah, where the largest congregation for Eid prayers takes place in the country, on July 7, 2016, the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, killing four people, including a suspect, and injuring at least 12 others.

The attack took place less than a week after the country's deadliest terror attack on an upscale cafe in Gulshan, Dhaka, killing 24 people, including 17 foreign nationals.
