Child Mamun killed for Tk 30 lakh

Narsingdi Correspondent: Detective Branch (DB) in Narsingdi has uncovered the mystery behind the killing of a seven-year-old child Mamun in the district’s Raipura upazila.

Law enforcers also arrested the key accused and hired killer Nasir, 22.

Saifullah Al-Mamun, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Narsingdi, came up with the disclosure at a press briefing on Wednesday noon.

Nasir, son of Jahir Islam of Rajanagar area of the upazila, confessed to the killing, according the SP.

SP Saifullah said, “Mamun, son of Sujon Mia of Hasimpur village under Raipur upazila who recently returned home from aboard, went missing on June 20 after he went out for playing. His half-decomposed body was recovered from roof-top of neighbour Joynal Master’s house after three days of his missing.”

“Mamun’s father Sujon Mia filed a murder case with Raipura Police Station in this connection which was handed to the district DB for investigation. DB firstly held Joynal Master on suspicion with the killing. Later, the main accused Nasir was arrested with the help of technology,” he added.

The SP said, “Nasir confessed that Mamun was abducted in planed way for Tk 30 lakh. He was murdered after he was kept unfed for two days.”

He said, “Joynal Master is the mastermind of the killing. He mainly works for any agency to send people abroad. This is Joynal Master who sent the slain Mamun’s father Sujon to Saudi Arabia. Even, Sujon also used to send all money to Joynal from abroad. After returning home, he deposited all the money in banks. For the money, he rented Nasir with Tk 10,000 through his own son and nephew to kill Mamun.”

The SP said, “After abduction, Joynal made call over Sujon’s mobile number several times asking different questions like if someone made call to him or why was the phone switched off? At one stage, he killed Mamun in planned way to escape from suspicion when he failed to collect money. Later, he fled it on the roof-top of his own house.”
