Court orders to arrest MP Rana in fresh murder case

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A Tangail court has ordered to show ruling party lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana arrested in a case filed for killing two local Juba League leaders in 2012.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdullah Al Masum on Wednesday passed the order after hearing in a petition this regard filed by the district Detective Branch (DB).
According to the case statement, Shamim and Mamun, leaders of Baghil UP Juba League unit under Sadar upazila, went missing from the district town, after they had emerged from their house on motorbike on July 16 in 2012.
On the following day, Shamim’s Asia Khatun filed a general diary (GD) in this connection with Tangail Sadar Police Station.
After one year, on July 9 in 2013, Mamun’s father filed a murder case with Tangail court. On September 21 in the year, police listed the case after investigation.
Later, three arrestees-- Khandoker Jahid, Shahadat Hossain and Hiron Mia-- gave confessional statement in the case. They mentioned that they had committed the murder by instructions of Rana and floated the bodies in the river.
According to the court sources, Ashok Kumar Singh, the district DB OC, also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, filed a petition with the court seeking order for arrest of Rana in the case on Thursday.
BD OC Ashok Kumar Singh said, “A petition will be filed seeking a five-day remand for him in the case.”
MP Rana is currently behind the bar in the case of Tangail Awami League leader freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder. He was produced before the court from jail on Wednesday.
