Covered van runs over 2 girls

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Two girls were killed and three others were injured as a covered van ran over them at Konabari on Dhaka-Tangail highway under Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) area on Monday noon.

The deceased were known as Sadia Naznin Mim, 15, daughter of Selim Rana of Rakhaliachala under Kaliakoir upazila of the district, and their domestic help Sanjida, 12, hailed from Madaripur.

The injured could not be ascertained immediately.

Police and locals said the Chandra-bound covered van rammed a passenger-laden van of the same direction at Konabari, leaving five passenger of the van fallen down. Then, the covered van ran over them, leaving Mim and Sanjida died on the spot while three others injured.

Basu Dev Sinha, In-Charge of Salna-Konabari highway Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, “Bodies of the deceased were taken to the police station. The covered van managed to flee the scene. Legal steps in this connection was under process.”
