Dhaka’s rail link with southern, northern dists snapped

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: The Rail communication of Dhaka with the country's northern and southern districts remains suspended as a rail bridge was partly damaged in Kalihati upazila of Tangail due to floodwater.

The basement of Pouli river rail bridge partly collapsed due to onrush of floodwater on Sunday morning.

Dhaka-bound Nilsagar Express from Nilphamari's Chilahati stranded at the spot.



Jamal Uddin, Master of the Tangail's Gharinda station, said the basement of Pouli river rail bridge partly collapsed while Dhaka-bound Sundarban Express from Khulna was crossing the bridge around 5:30am. The incident took place as soil became softer due to flood water. The incident snapped the Dhaka's rail communication with the northern and southern region of the country.

Meanwhile, Dhaka-bound Rangpur express stranded at the Bangabandhu bridge west station while Dhaka-bound Akota express from Dinajpur and Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express at Joydevpur in Gazipur, according to Jamal.

He said Railway engineering department's officials from Pakshi and Dhaka have already started for the spot to repair the track.
