Drug peddler killed in Chuadanga ‘gunfight’

Chuadanga Correspondent: A drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district’s Damurhuda upazila on Thursday midnight.
The gunfight took place around 1.30am in Moktarpur Naldanga area of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Bari Haq alias Abdul Barek, 40, son of late Gani Sheikh at Kapasdanga village.
According to police, a team of police conducted a drive there and sensing the presence of police, Barek and his associates opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back in 'self-defence'.
At one stage, he said, Barek was caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet wounds.
Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Four policemen were injured in the incident.
Police also recovered one pipe-gun, two bullets, two sharp weapons and phensidyls, kept in a sack from the spot.
Barek was wanted in 15 criminal cases, according to the police.
