‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cumilla 'gunfight'

Cumilla Correspondent: A ‘drug peddler’ was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Rajapara Chowmohoni in Sadar South upazila early Thursday.

The deceased is Tofayel, 23, son of Noman alias Roman alias Sabuj at South Chartha.

According to police, acting on a tip-off, a special team of Sadar South police conducted an anti-drug drive in Rajapara Chowmohoni area. Sensing danger, the drug peddlers opened fire at police forcing them to retaliate, which triggered a ‘gunfight’.

When the criminals managed to flee the scene, police found bullet-hit Md Tofayel and rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Tofayel is accused in as many as six cases including drug, mugging and robbery, police said.

Police also seized a LG with one round cartridge, a knife and 400 pieces of yaba from the spot.
