‘Drug trader’ killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

Cumilla Correspondent:  An alleged drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district on Monday midnight.

The gunfight took place in front of mill gate at Bijoypur in Sadar South upazila.

The deceased was identified as Bappy alias Rajib, 26, son of late Delwar Hossain Delu at Uttar Rampur village in the upazila.

According to police, a team of Sadar South Model Police Station conducted a drive at Bijoypur to recover drugs. Sensing presence of law enforcers, Bappy and his associates opened fire on them forcing them to retaliate in self-defence which triggered a gun battle.

Bullet-hit Bappy was found lying on the ground after the gunfight and he was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Bappy was wanted in 11 drug cases, police also said.
