Drug trader killed in Rajshahi gunfight

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: A suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kasba area under Paba upazila of the district early Wednesday.

The deceased was Sazzad Hossain, 35, son of Soim Uddin, hailed from Banpara village of Haripur.

A text message of the RAB-5 floated to media confirmed this morning.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of drug traders are selling drugs in the area, RAB-5 personnel conducted a drive around 1:00am. Meanwhile, sensing presence of RAB officials, drug traders opened fire. In reply, the RAB officials also opened fire which triggered the gunfight, leaving Sazzad Hossain injured.

Later, he was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

The drug trader was wanted in 7-8 cases including robbery.
