‘Drug trader’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with BGB

Cumilla Correspondent:  A ‘drug trader’ was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Mathurapur of Sadar South upazila early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Abul Hashem, 52, son of late Minnat Ali at Birahimpur village in the upazila.

Lt Colonel Abu Mohammad Mohiuddin, BGB-10 commanding officer, said a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area to recover drugs. Sensing presence of law enforcers, drug traders opened fire on them forcing them to retaliate in self-defence which triggered a gunfight.

Hashem was found lying on the ground with bullet injury after the gunfight and he was taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he also said.

About 18,380 Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot, he added.
