Elephant's skeleton recovered from Satkhira pond

Different body parts of the dead elephant including its skeleton found at a pond at Kora village in Debhata upazila of Satkhira district.

Satkhira Correspondent: Different body parts of a dead elephant including its skeleton have been recovered during the digging of a pond at Kora village in Debhata upazila of Satkhira district on Thursday morning.

It is believed that the elephant died 200/250 years ago.

Local people said labourers who were digging the pond found the different body parts of the dead elephant including its skeleton at the pond owned by Sheikh Abdul Hamid of the village in the morning.

Abdul Hamid said, "As far as I know, there was a river in the locality and perhaps, the elephant remained under deep ground after it died 200/250 years ago. The skeleton was good enough as it was under the thick layer of sand for long time."

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the different body parts of the dead elephant including its skeleton from the pond, said Mamun-Or-Rashid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debhata Police Station.

Later, those body parts of the elephant were brought to the police station, the OC added.

Five or six years ago, head and some body parts of an elephant were also recovered from the same pond and concerned government officials brought them to Dhaka.
