Extremist leader killed in Rajbari ‘gunfight’

Rajbari Correspondent: An extremist leader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Mozammel, 35, son of Mujibur Rahman Fakir, hailing from Hatbon village in Sorisha union of the Pangsha upazila.

Mofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pangsha Police Station, said, “Acting on a tiff-off, a team of police went to the Bongram area of the upazila around 3:00am where extremist leader Mozammel along with his accomplices was holding a meeting. Sensing the presence of law enforcers the extremists fired upon them. The law enforcers fired back that triggered a gunfight, leaving Mozammel with bullet-hit injuries.”

Mozammel was rushed to Rajbari Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead, the OC added.

Mozammel is an accused in seven cases including murder and rape.
