Factory fire panic leaves 35 injured

Staff Correspondent, Savar: At least 35 workers of a garment factory were injured in a stampede while scrambling for exit in a panic over fire in the factory.

The incident took place at Z-3 knitting factory of Ajmat Group at Katgorha of Ashulia, the outskirts of Dhaka, on Tuesday noon.

Workers said workers started to get down through the downstairs rapidly after hearing fire extinguishing signal suddenly, leaving 35 injured.

Compliance officer Laboni Akter said someone mistakenly pushed the alarm button, creating panic among the workers.

The injured were taken to different hospitals in Savar, she added.

The incident stopped the production in the factory for today, she said.
