Families unwilling to take bodies of Sitakunda 'militant' couple

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Families of two of the suspected militants killed in the raid jointly conducted by law enforcers in Sitakunda's Premtala area of the port city are unwilling to receive the bodies.

Kamal Uddin and his wife 'Jubaida' were among the four killed after a 19-hour clash between security forces and the suspected militants holed up in an apartment of a two-storey building at the upazila.

Families identified the couple, who hailed from the hill tracts district of Bandarban, at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital's (CMCH) morgue on Monday noon.

Kamal Uddin's father Mozaffar Ahmed and Jubaida’s father Nurul Alam said that they will not receive the bodies.

Jubaida's father Nurul Alam and brother Ziabul Haque identified the body at the CMCH morgue.

After identifying, Jubaida's brother said, “We will not receive the body.”

A decision has been taken to hand over the bodies to Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam as both the families were reluctant to receive the bodies, police said.

Chittagong district police Superintendent Nur-e-Alam Mina said fathers of the two militants killed in the raid were brought from their residence at Baishari village under Naikkhanchhari upazila of Bandarban district yesterday. Both of them were questioned but they did not provide any solid information about their children.
