Father-daughter suicide: Detained Shahid released

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Shahidul Islam Shahid who was detained over the incident of father-daughter suicide at the district's Shreepur was released on Wednesday, hours after as he was not accused in the case.

Ali Akbar, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, also Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kamalapur Railway Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, "Being informed of arresting another accused in the case filed for committing suicide of father-daughter pair, I immediately went to Gazipur to identify the accused. But complaint Halima Begum cleared him of being accused in the case."

Later, he was released, confirmed Shreepur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Rafiqul Islam.

Earlier, Shreepur police held Shahid, son of Nasir Uddin, from Kornopur of the area on Tuesday night.

Hazrat Ali and his adopted daughter Ayesha committed suicide crushing under train at Shreepur railway station area on Saturday morning.

Hazrat Ali's wife Halima alleged that local stalker Faruk picked up their daughter Ayesha and tried to rape her. Locals saved the girl after they sensed the matter.

Hazrat Ali informed the matter to local UP member and police station. But they did not pay heed to his allegation, she added.

As he did not get justice, he along with his daughter took lives crushing under train, she said.

Earlier, police arrested the UP member Abul Hossain after the incident.

Later, Halima filed a case against seven people including the UP member with Kamalapur Railway Police Station.
