Female constable found hanging

Noakhali Correspondent: Police found a female constable hanging at the quarter of Charjabbar police station in the district’s Shubarnachar upazila on Friday noon.

The deceased was known as Shipra Rani Das, 22, only daughter of Panchanagar area under Devidwar upazila in Cumilla.

Shipra took her life due to drug addicted and greedy husband Rajib Dey, family claimed.

Shahed Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Charjabbar Poice Station, confirmed the news of death.

He said, “Five female constables including Shipra reside in the room. Of them, one is currently on leave. Three others had gone out for meals at noon. When they came back with meals, they found the door locked. They called Shipra many times, but she did not respond to them. At that time, male cops were in the mosque for Juma prayers. When they reached their quarter, the female cops informed them the matter. Then, they broke the door and found Shipra hanging with ceiling fan.”

“She might have committed suicide due to family feud with her husband. The body was sent to Noakhali Sadar Hospital morgue,” he added.

Deceased’s mother Shorna Rani said, “Shipra’s father had died a few years ago. She joined police in 2014. She got married Rajib Dey on July 10, 2017 as they had love affairs. Rajib was paid Tk one lakh, four bhoris of gold and furniture. He is currently on duty in Chattogram.”

She alleged that Rajib is a drug addicted. Though he serves in police, he used to torture Shipra physically and mentally on different excuses. He also used to beat her when he came home.

She further said I afforded my family by doing works at others’ houses. It is not possible for her to pay Rajib again. I could not make contact with my daughter for fear of Rajib for four months, after she transferred to Charjabbar police station. Shipra was mentally depressed with the matter.
