Ferry service on Shimulia-Kathalbari route halted

Munshiganj Correspondent: Ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari route were suspended due to thick fog.

The operation of all water vessels remained suspended since early Monday.

Ferry services on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route came to a complete halt from 12:00am on Monday due to hazy visibility caused by thick fog, said Shah Newaz Khalid, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Mawa.

The ferry service will resume as the fog disappears, Newaz added.

Meanwhile, five ferries remained stuck in the middle of Padma river while three others laid anchored at Shimulia and five at Kathalbari ghats.

More than 500 vehicles got stranded at both ghats to cross the river.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at both ghats, causing immense sufferings to them amid cold weather.
