Final report submitted: Ctg girl commits suicide

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: The schoolgirl who was found dead on the bank of the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram’s Patenga died as she took life herself, according to final report submitted to court.

Detective Branch Sub-Inspector Swapon Kumar Sarkar submitted the final report to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court of Chattogram on Sunday after four and a half months of investigation.

MD Shahidullah, deputy commissioner (port) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), report submission to the court.

The detectives also recommended acquitting the six people accused in a murder case started by the victim’s father.

Swapon Sarkar, Sub-Inspector (SI) of CMP Detective Branch (DB) said, “After analysing the circumstances, post-mortem examination and viscera reports, and statements of witnesses, we certain that she had committed suicide.”

Police recovered Tasfia’s body from the pier no. 18 at Patenga on May 2. Her family identified her later from photos of the body posted on Facebook.

Tasfia, a grade nine student of Sunshine Grammar School, an English-medium institution in the port city, went out with her boyfriend to a restaurant in the evening of May 1.
