Five killed in Cox’s Bazar landslides

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent:  Five people including four members of a family were killed in separate incidents of landslide in Sadar and Ramu upazilas of the district on Wednesday morning.

Md Safaet Hossain, assistant director of Fire Service, said four members of a family were killed while another injured in a landslide at Rumaliarchhara Bachamiar Ghona area of the district town around 6:00 am.

The deceased were identified as Marjina Akhter, 15, Kafia Akhter, 10,  Khairunnesa, 8, and Abdul Hayi, four children of Malaysia expatriate Jamal Hossain of the area.

The incident occurred due to incessant rainfall for the last couple of days. A chunk of mud from the hill collapsed on the house of Jamal Hossain while all the house inmates were asleep, leaving four dead on the spot, he said.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and recovered the bodies.

In Ramu upazila, a child was killed and another was injured when a chunk of mud fell on their tin-shed home in South Mithacharri area.

The deceased was identified as Morshed Alam, 6, son of Zagir Hossain.
