Floods in different upazilas of Chittagong

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Different upazilas of Chittagong district have been flooded again due to heavy rain from Thursday.

Nearly half lakh people of seven unions of Sitakunda upazila of the district have been marooned due to flood water.

Hundreds of acres of land in 13 upazilas including Fatikchhari, Banshkhali, Chandanaish and Satkania have been submerged. People have been suffering as their houses, ponds and roads have gone under water. Fishes of hundreds of ponds have washed away. Two hundred mud-made houses have been damaged.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains have started in Chittagong district since Thursday due to monsoon winds.

A local UP Chairman of Sitakunda upazila Shawkat Jahangir told risingbd that most of the areas of Sitakunda municipality, Baraiyadhala, Syedpur, Muradpur, Barabkunda, Kumira, Bansbaria and Bhatiari unions have been submerged.

Meanwhile, flood has been seen again in different unions of Fatikchhari upazila.  Flood water has entered 10 unions including the Suyabeel of the upazila.
