Freedom fighter’s body wasn’t covered with nat'l flag

Pabna Correspondent: A freedom fighter has allegedly been buried without according fully guard of honour to his body at Samvopur village of Bera upazila in Pabna.

Thought the freedom fighter Tahez Uddin Sarkar, 82, who died on Friday night, was buried with state honour, but his body was not covered with the national flag during according the guard of honour. His body was covered with a mat made by bamboo which made his family and local civil society aggrieved.

The namaz-e-janaza of Tahez Uddin Sarkar was held at the Bera central Eid ground on Saturday. Bera Upazila Freedom Fighter Command Council did not attach his coffin with the national flag which created grievance among local people.

When contacted, Bera Upazila Freedom Fighter Council president Ishak Ali said, “His body was accorded to full state honour and buried with guard of honour. It was very hot on that day, so with decision of all, his body was not covered with the national flag.”

When asked, Mahbub Hossain, Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land), said actually, it was absolutely unintentional mistake. Matter of covering the body with the national was overlooked by all. It was noticed after according the guard of honour. I confess that it was my mistake.”
