Savar Correspondent: Getting well after receiving a long treatment in hospital, college student Khadiza Akter Nargis who was repeatedly hacked by a Chhatra League leader in Sylhet returned home on Friday morning.

Khadiza left Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar for Sylhet around 10:00am.

An ambulance of CRP took Khadiza to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from where she reached Sylhet by a flight of Bangladesh Airlines.

Khadiza was accompanied by her elder brother Shahin Ahmed and one of her aunts at this time.

She will stay at home on Friday and Saturday and appear before a court in Sylhet to give deposition for the first time on Sunday morning.

Shahin Ahmed said, “Khadiza has returned home with a smiling face. She said goodbye to all staff at the time of leaving CRP. We are grateful to all.”

Asked Khadiza’s feeling about returning home, Shahin Ahmed said, “Khadiza wanted to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before returning home. But we could not communicate. The Prime Minister has played a big contribution to giving her a second life by bearing all medical costs. For this, we owe the Prime Minister.”

On October 3 last year, Khadiza, 23, a student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was stabbed by Badrul, a fourth-year student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) and also senior assistant secretary of the BCL unit in Sust on her way home from college.

Later, the students along with locals caught and beat Badrul up and handed him over to police.

Following the attack, Khadiza was initially admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College where she had undergone a surgery.

Khadiza was moved to Dhaka following day as her condition deteriorated. On October 4, she was kept on life support in Dhaka’s Square Hospital.

Later on, she was shifted to Savar CRP on November 28, 2016.

The gruesome attack was carried out on the campus of Murari Chand College (MC College) where the victim had gone to take part in one of her examinations.

A part of the attack was filmed by presumably a bystander with a mobile phone. The clip went viral.

In the clip, a youth is seen repeatedly hacking a girl lying on the ground. There were some bystanders but no one seemed to have intervened.

Abdul Kuddus, Khadiza's uncle, filed a case with Shahporan Police Station over the incident.
