Girder of under construction bridge collapses in Feni

Feni Correspondent: A girder of an under construction bridge collapsed at Sonagazi of Feni on Saturday noon.

However, no casualties were reported after the incident.

Meanwhile, officials of contracting company of Dhaka named Rana Builders fled the scene to escape from public anger.

The incident of collapsing girder triggered panic among locals.  Allegations were found that the builder company was constructing the bridge with substandard materials.

According to sources concerned, the project of Sahebghat Bridge at Sonagazi-Companyganj junction started in June, 2016. Though June of the current year was deadline for the project, the company just completed 50 percent of construction by this time. The estimated cost of the bridge construction was known as Tk 53 crore.

Nobody of the builder company was found at the spot or on phone for their comments over the matter.

Minhazur Rahman, UNO of Sonagazi upazila, said "Being informed of girder collapse, I visited the spot. Steps were taken for investigation into the technical complexities to construct the bridge."
