Staff Correspondent, Tangail: The girl, who was found dead on roadside at Madhupur in Tangail on Friday, has been identified as Rupa Khatun, 24, daughter of Jilhas Pramanik of Achhanbari village under Tarash upazila of Sirajganj.

Her elder brother Hafizur Rahman has filed a case with Madhupur Police Station citing that she was raped in moving bus and then murdered.

Police arrested five people conducting a drive on Monday night. Of them, three gave their confessional statement to Tangail Chief Judicial Magistrate court over raping Rupa in moving bus on Tuesday.

Safiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Madhupur Police Station, said Rupa was an honors final year student of Ideal Law College in Dhaka. Alongside, she was working for Unilever Bangladesh in Sherpur district.  She went Bogra to attend the Non-Government Teachers' Registration examination on Friday. After exam, she left Bogra for Mymensingh by a Chhoa Paribahan bus (Dhaka Metro-Ba-14-3963) with one her of colleagues.

Her colleague got down from the bus at Elenga to get a new bus for Dhaka to join his office there. Rupa was in the bus for heading Mymensingh, he added.

He said Rupa's Sherpur office colleagues called over her mobile number as she did not reach on time. A youth received the phone call and said 'the owner left behind the mobile and cut off it. Since, the mobile was found switched off.

Later on Saturday morning, Rupa's colleagues informed her family that Rupa did not attend office. Then her brother Hafizur filed a general diary (GD) in this connection with Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, the OC said.

On Monday, he identified his sister Rupa after getting news on media. Then, he informed police the matter provided Rupa's colleagues, he added.

Police on Monday night arrested five people including driver, conductor and helper of the bus. Of them three bus staffs named Shamim, Akram and Jahangir gave the confessional statement to the court on Tuesday.
