Gopalganj clinic owner jailed for 3 months

Gopalganj Coorrespondent: A mobile court has sentenced Deshbandhu Biswas, 50, owner of Shantilata Clinic and Diagnostic Center of Bhangarhat of the district’s Kotalipara upazila, to three months’ imprisonment.

He was sentenced for undergoing caesarian operation for childbirth and absence of physicians and nurses in the clinic.

Judge of the mobile court, also Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) ASM Mahfuzur Rahman passed the order on Friday evening.

The convict Deshbandhu Biswas is a resident of Bhangarhat village of the upazila.

Judge Mahfuzur Rahman said, “On November 9, Bidhan Halder of Pirarbari village of the upazila got admitted his pregnant wife Bithi Halder to the clinic. Deshbandhu underwent caesarian operation for childbirth. Since, Bithi fell sick seriously. Later, she was taken to Khulna in a critical condition. She has been undergoing treatment there.

Bidhan Halder filed a written allegation over the incident. Then, we conducted operation in the clinic, he added.

He said, “Deshbandhu blamed Premananda Mondal for the surgery. But he said he has not been staying Kotalipara for over two months. Later, Deshbandhu was found responsible for the operation.”

The court sentenced Deshbandhu as he conducted operation to the woman and there were not found any nurse and physician in the clinic, he said.
