Housewife strangled to death in Satkhira

Satkhira Correspondent: A housewife was strangled to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Dewara village under Kalaroa upazila early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Tahmina Khatun (19), daughter of Iman Ali Sardar of the village.

Local UP member Tojammel Hossain said that two years ago, Tahmira was married to Monirul Islam at Rajbari village under Jhikargachha thana of Jessore district. Monirul used to torture Tahmina for dowry. Thinking about the happiness of the daughter, Tahmina's father gave dowry about one lakh taka in three phases.

Monir came to the house of his father-in-law on Thursday afternoon and said he would not torture further. He came to take his wife home but early morning, he strangled Tahmina to death and fled from the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalaroa Police Station Biplob Kumar Nath said that initially it was thought that she was strangled to death. Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
