Husband-wife killed as covered van hit

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A man and his wife were killed as a covered van hit a motorcycle they rode at Kodda area on Dhaka-Tangail Highway under Gazipur City Corporation on Saturday evening.

The deceased were identified as Faruk Khan, 35, and his wife Poly Akter, 30.

The couple's eight-year old son Maruf was also injured in the incident.

Basu Dev Sinha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Salna-Konabari Highway Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said Faruk Khan with his wife and son as returning home from Gazipur's Chandra by a motorcycle. A covered van hit their motorbike while they reached at Kodda area, leaving them skidded off and injured.

Later, they were rushed to Shahid Tazuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur where attending doctors declared Poly Akter dead. After nearly an hour, Faruk Khan also succumbed, he added.

Their son Maruf is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital, he said.
