Imam held in rape case in Debidwar

Cumilla Correspondent:  An imam has been arrested for allegedly rapping a teenage girl in Chhoto Shalghor area of the district’s Debidwar upazila.

The arrestee is Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, 22, imam of Chhoto Shalghar Dakkhinpara Baitul Falah Jame Mosque and son of M Saidul Islam of Viralla village in the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Debidwar Police Station Md Jahirul Anwar said the imam seduced the teenage girl into going to his room around 10am on Saturday and raped her after gagging her with a napkin. He was arrested on Saturday night.

The victim narrated the incident to her mother after returning home, he said.
The girl was sent to hospital for medical examination.

The victim’s father filed a case in this regard, the OC said, adding that the imam confessed to his crime.
