Influx of Rohingyas will be prevented: BGB DG

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: “We are on high alert. We will not allow anyone from Myanmar to intrude into Bangladesh,” said Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Abul Hossain.

He said this while addressing a press conference at Ghumdhum Border Observation Post in Naikhyangchhari upazila of Bandarban on Sunday afternoon.

“We’re the nation of heroes. We’ll give a befitting reply if any threat comes even through a single inch of our land,” the BGB DG Abul Hossain said following firings twice by Myanmar troops on fleeing people near Bandarban border on Saturday.

He said the situation in Rakhine State of Myanmar will be improved if the final recommendations made by the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State (Annan Commission) are implemented.

As per their knowledge, the BGB DG said, there has been no influx from Myanmar to Bangladesh.

Additional forces have been deployed along the 271-km border with Myanmar to prevent fresh influx of Rohingyas, he said.
