Jewellery shop loot: 4 cops injured in firing

Manikganj Correspondent: Four cops have sustained bullet injuries in firing with robbers while they were escaping after looting a jewellery shop in Manikganj.

The incident of gun battling occurred at Saturia bus stand area of the district around 8:30pm on Wednesday.

Of the injured policemen, three were identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) of Saturia Police Station Aslam, SI Hassan and constable Wahed. Another could not be named immediately.

Of them, two were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

However, police also nabbed one of the robbers from the firing spot.

Aminur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saturia Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said some masked robbers looted Nag Jewellers in gun point at around 7:00pm on Wednesday. The robbers blasted several cocktails while they were leaving the scene.

Being informed, roads were blocked setting up barricade at Saturia bus stand area. Robbers fired and exploded cocktails at law enforcers as they challenged the microbus used by them, he added.

He said policemen also retaliated at the miscreants. The firing left four cops injured. One of the robbers was held while they were fleeing the scene blasting cocktails.

The injure policemen were firstly taken to Manikganj 250-bed District Hospital. Later, two of them were referred to DMCH, the OC said.
