Juba Dal leader killed in Noakhali gunfight

Noakhali Correspondent: A local Juba Dal leader named Md Alam (30) has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district’s Begumganj upazila.

The gunfight took place around 3.00am on Thursday in an orchard of Daspara village under Alaipur union of the upazila.

The deceased was son of Abul Kashem and joint secretary of Alaipur union unit of Juba Dal.

Five policemen were also injured in the gunfight. Police recovered a pistol, a pipe gun and some local weapons.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Thana Sajedur Rahman claimed that Md Alam was a robber and there were 10 cases against him.

He said Alam was arrested on Wednesday evening and his confessional statement police along with him went to the area for arms haul. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Alam’s associates fired forcing the policemen to back fire that triggered a gunfight.

Seriously injured Alam was taken to Noakhali General Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.
