Juba League activist hacked dead in Hatiya

Noakhali Correspondent: An activist of Juba League, a pro -Awami League youth body, was hacked to death at the district's Hatiya upazila on Wednesday.

The incident took place over establishing supremacy at Setu Market Bazaar of the upazila around 12:30pm.

The deceased was identified as Riaz Uddin, 30, son of Qurban Ali of the area and activist of Sonadia Union Juba League.

Locals said there has been a dispute between Riaz and Nizam groups over establishing supremacy at Setu Market Bazaar, ensued from post-election violence of Sonadia UP. People of the both groups locked into clashes which claimed lives different times. Both of the groups also filed counter cases.

As a sequel to that, people of Nizam group hacked Riaz with sharp weapons and left him seriously injured, they added.

Locals took Riaz to the local Upazila Health Complex immediately. Later, he was referred to Noakhali General Hospital as his condition deteriorated, but he succumbed on way to the hospital, they said.

Abdul Mazid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatiya Police Station, confirmed the news.
