KCC polls: Vote counting begins

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: Vote counting for the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election has begun after voting concluded at 4:00pm on Tuesday.

Election officials started counting votes just after the closing of voting at 4:00pm.

Returning officer Yunus Ali said the voting took place in 289 centers of the city. However, voting in three polling centres were suspended due to snatching of ballot papers and forced balloting.

According to Returning Officer (RO) of the KCC polls, a total of 191 candidates, including five for mayoral post, 148 for councillor posts, 38 for reserved posts for women, vied in the polls while 4,93,093 voters exercised their voting rights.

The mayor candidates are ruling Awami League nominated Talukder Abdul Khalek, BNP nominated Najrul Islam Manju, Jatiya Party nominated SM Shafiqur Rahman, Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominated Principal Maulana Mujammil Haque and Communist Party of Bangladesh nominated Mizanur Rahman Babu.
