Sylhet college student Khadiza Begum Nargis

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: Sylhet Government Women's College student Khadiza Begum Nargis who was hacked repeatedly by Badrul Alam, a fourth-year student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) has returned to her home nearly four months later.

Khadiza arrived at Sylhet MAG Osmani International Airport from Dhaka by a flight at 2:30pm on Wednesday. Later, she came out of the airport at 2:40pm.

She was accompanied by her brother Shahin Ahmed and her father Masuk Mia was present at the airport. Then, Khadiza was taken to her home from the airport.

Speaking to the newsmen at the airport, Shahin Ahmed said Khadiza has been brought to his residence for a week and will be taken to CRP again for treatment.

On October 3 last year, Khadiza, 23, a student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was stabbed by Badrul, a fourth-year student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) and also senior assistant secretary of the BCL unit in Sust on her way home from college.

Later, the students along with locals caught and beat Badrul up and handed him over to police.

Following the attack, Khadiza was initially admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College where she had undergone a surgery.

Khadiza was moved to Dhaka following day as her condition deteriorated. Later, she was kept on life support in Dhaka’s Square Hospital.

The gruesome attack was carried out on the campus of Murari Chand College (MC College) where the victim had gone to take part in one of her examinations.

A part of the attack was filmed by presumably a bystander with a mobile phone. The clip went viral.

In the clip, a youth is seen repeatedly hacking a girl lying on the ground. There were some bystanders but no one seemed to have intervened.

Abdul Kuddus, Khadiza's uncle, filed a case with Shahporan Police Station over the incident.
