Lakhs of flood victims passing miserable days

Bogra Correspondent: Several lakh people of more than two hundred villages situated on the bank of Jamuna river in Bogra are now passing their days in great hardship as they are stranded in flood water.

Marooned by the flash floods which have been triggered by incessant rain, the people are passing their days without food and pure drinking water, resulting in various water-borne diseases. They are in great danger as acute scarcity of cattle food has been found, reports our local correspondent on Thursday.

Besides, several cracks have been found in flood controlling embankment which locals fear might be collapsed any time.

District’s relief officer Shaharul Islam Md Abu Hena told risingbd that as per the demand, an application has been made to the concerned ministry seeking an allotment of 500 metric tonnes of rice, TK 15 lakh in cash and 6,000 packets of dry foods.

All people affected by floods can be helped by terns if the allotment is provided, he added.

“I have been living by eating chira and gur for three days. Until now I have not tasted rice,” told 60-year old Rahima Begum, a resident of Sariakandi upazila of Bogra.
