Listed drug trader killed in Tangail ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A listed drug trader named Md Afzal (35) was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB in the district early Friday.


The gunfight took place in Charanchal Beguntal area of Tangail Sadar upazila.

Md Afzal was the son of Abdul Karim.

Two RAB men were injured in the gunfight.

RAB also recovered a foreign pistol, five rounds of bullets, a magazine, 200 bottles of phensedyl and 1042 pieces of Yaba from the spot.

He was a top listed ‘drug trader’, according to RAB.

Commanding officer of Rab-12 Rabiul Islam said a group of drug traders gathered in the area for trading drugs and a team of Rab-12 conducted the drive in the area.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on them that forced the RAB members to fire back in self-defence.

At one stage, Rab recovered the bullet-hit body of Afzal from the spot.
